RARE ATQ Dress Black with White Lace c 1910-20 Ruched Waistline
From my neighbor Loretta's attic is her nearly pristine 1920s black dress. The fabric, I think, is silk, the 2nd photo shows how the material was woven - not visible unless you show the light through it - and the skirt is lined. The front neckline goes deep to the somewhat high waist; the back neck is adorned with the same lace as the front. The bodice is "ruched, " a very old name for a sewing technique that gathered the fabric into rows, strung onto cord.
It's different than "shirred" - that uses no cord. The shoulders are shirred or wave tucked.
The dress is approaching 100 years old, but it is remarkable condition with no smells. There was one small tear now repaired and there is one very little hole in the back, but I can't find it anymore. DIMENSIONS: The bust is 38-40 with lots of gathers, the front neck is 12-14 inches deep. The sleeves are 24 inches to the cuff and the lace extends down another 2 inches below that.
The distance from the top of its neck to the bottom of the back is 14 inches, the waist is 24 to 26 inches and the hip is 42 to 44 inches when the ruching is extended. The length from the back of the neck to the bottom is 50 inches. The skirt is very full. Please assume someone ill or carrying the virus has touched packages you receive.
