For sale is an Authentic antique hand forged blacksmith made 1700s 18th century early American fireplace trivet/ pot sitter with wrought iron frame and highly decorative cut brass top. Brass top trivet is also popular throughout 19th century, but as I turned this trivet over to inspect its frame, I was pleasantly surprised by the aged look of its iron frame. All connections are formed in rivet style and are hand hammered. The end of each iron stock either has a beautiful curl or forms one of the three penny feet. This is certainly one of the early prototypes of brass top wrought iron trivet served at an upscale fireplace in early American parlor!
The item is also in wonderful antique condition. The top brass decoration has no breakage.
Even the more fragile wooden handle is original and complete with no chips or losses. The wrought iron frame has beautiful micro pittings from blacksmith folding and hammering and long term use, but not bent, rusty, or loose at all! Age appropriate surface wears and imperfections are present. Overall, this is a rare-to-find object that demonstrates high level of metalwork craftsmanship in colonial America.
A great display item that should not be passed by any serious collector for early brass work /wrought iron antiquity /early Americana /primitive Kitchen and hearth tool. It Measures approximately 13" tall, the top surface is 14" long (including the handle) and 7 wide. Feel free to check out my other antique and collectible listings (many more fireplace hearth items).
